The 2012 presidential election cycle officially kicks off on Jan. 3 with the Iowa primary, and will be followed a week later with the highly-anticipated New Hampshire primary. Nearly seven of 10 Americans (69.6%) said that candidate positions on housing will be important considerations in the upcoming elections in a recent national survey from Move, Inc.
Take a look at the latest real estate trend data (November 2011) and median-priced listings in key markets in the first two primary states—Iowa and New Hampshire:
Iowa (Primary: Jan. 3, 2012):
Des Moines, Iowa–the No. 111th most searched MSA according to Realtor.com’s November 2011 Real Estate Trend Data–has a median list price of $165,000, and the median age of inventory is 107 days there. This 4 bedroom, 4 bath Des Moines home is listed for $165,000. The 1,814-square foot home has an open floor plan with a great room, and a variety of upgrades including a new roof and laminate flooring. There’s also a large backyard shed for additional storage.
The median list price for homes in Iowa City, Iowa is $204,900, and has increased 2.50% compared to October 2011, according to Realtor.com’s November 2011 data. In Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the median list price of $148,500 is much less than the national median list price of $189,900, according to Realtor.com’s November 2011 data. The median age of inventory in November–92 days–is also beating the national median age of inventory of 114 days. This 3 bedroom, 2 bath Cedar Rapids home is priced under the median list price at $145,000. The 1,570-square foot home has a spacious kitchen and living area, as well as a recreational room.
New Hampshire (Primary: Jan. 10, 2012):
In November 2011, the median list price in Concord, New Hampshire was $197,000, according to Realtor.com data. List prices increased year-over-year by 0.31% and month-over-month by 1.08%. Additionally, median age of inventory was at 121 days. Check out this New Englander-style home in Concord, currently listed for $195,000. Manchester, New Hampshire had a median list price of $185,450 in November 2011, according to Realtor.com–a 6.03% year-over-year increase.
