San Francisco Is Nation’s 3rd Drunkest City – SF Weekly (blog)
Interesting article we found: San Francisco Is Nation’s 3rd Drunkest City – SF Weekly (blog)
?San Francisco reliably comes out on top in national polls of which metropolitan area ranks highest in ribald practices. In June, we brought you the important news that our city had been deemed the country’s sluttiest.
Our drinking, it seems, is not quite up to that level. It’s still impressive. According to a survey of health statistics by The Daily Beast, San Francisco is the country’s third-drunkest city. We came in behind Milwaukee, Wis., and Fargo, N.D., two cities that have the advantage of inviting a winter-numbing buzz during their bitterly cold months. (Weighted for climate, S.F., we will hazard, is drunker than these Midwestern burgs.)
To the numbers: In San Francisco, 12.06 drinks are consumed per adult per month, The Daily Beast found. Some 8.2 percent of city residents are heavy drinkers, while 19.6 percent are binge drinkers.
Despite the city’s respectable showing on this list (after all, we did beat out the likes of Boston, San Diego, Anchorage, Austin, and Reno) it may take some effort to claw our way to the top in next year’s rankings. If you plan to take up the cause on New Year’s Eve, remember not to drink and drive — or walk.
